Embroidery Past and Present

Who knew 40 some years ago, while I was a young girl learning sewing, crocheting and hand embroidery from my mother and grandmother, someday I would own and operate computerized commercial embroidery machines in my business, J & K Embroidery Plus. I loved working on my hand projects then and I love working with the machine stitched projects now!!

The stitches are the same now as they were then……..one stitch at a time! Run stitches, satin stitches, cross stitch, are just a few of the different stitches but they are all made up from the single stitch. Luckily, our machines stitch a little faster than I did by hand! The machines can stitch up to 1,200 stitches per minute. But, we run them approx. 720 stitches per minute or lower on hats.

The photo (above right) is a cross stitch of Psalm 23 I stitched by hand on printed linen fabric.

Bridal/Wedding

BRIDAL SHOWER, WEDDING…….are you attending a wedding this summer?? Have a bridal shower coming up?? We have many gift items for the bride’s shower, the couple’s wedding gift, and the bridal party! Some of the items that can be monogrammed or embroidered with designs include towel sets, napkins, bride and groom aprons, robes, throws, quilts, sheets and pillowcases, handkerchiefs, and more! Gifts brides have purchased for their bridal party included tote bags with attendants’ names embroidered on the bags, t-shirts, towels, spa wraps just to name a few.

The photo (above right) shows a white linen table runner monogrammed in tone-on-tone with the bride’s and groom’s initials. The table runner could be used on the bridal table or under the cake on the cake table as shown.

Brides have also purchased embroidered apparel to wear on their wedding day……such as sweatshirt and pants, t-shirts, hats.

J & K Embroidery Plus also custom makes items for the wedding. Table runners, ring bearer pillows, money bags for the bride to carry, decorated hats for the bride to wear for the rehearsal are a few examples of the things we can custom make for the wedding adding a touch of elegance to the special day!

In addition to team uniforms, teams can show their team spirit by wearing apparel decorated with the team name, logo or mascot. There are various ways of decorating including embroidery, appliqué, vinyl print, sublimation. One of our favorites at J & K Embroidery Plus is distressed appliqué embroidery. In the photo (right), we appliquéd Wildcats in two layers of twill on a hooded sweatshirt. After washing, the twill will fray creating the distressed look. We not only create apparel for team players but parents, siblings, grandparents and others. Fanwear is a fun way to show support for your team!!

Advertise, Advertise, Advertise!!! How can you advertise 24/7………with your logo! Your logo will work for you whether you are asleep or awake? Before we started J & K Embroidery Plus, I noticed logos but now I really notice logos. When I see a company’s logo, I immediately think how it will stitch. Some logos look really fun others might be a challenge.

Logos are everywhere! This is how your company is recognized. Your logo can be stitched on many different items from shirts and hats to jackets and blankets. Once a logo is stitched on a shirt or hat, it is no longer just a shirt or hat. It’s a piece of marketing material!

Easter Banner

Easter Banners

I just wanted to showcase the Easter Banners I finished recently. I have been wanting to start making banners like these and doing some religious embroidery but wasn’t sure exactly how to finish the banners once they were embroidered. Finally, I decided to just do it and they turned out beautiful! The design, He Is Risen, is from Emblibrary and stitched in various shades of gold and metallic gold. The fabric is a beautiful off-white and was wonderful to work with. I lined them with drapery lining, hemmed the top and added gold fringe trim to the bottom. It was actually really fun to make them. I hope you enjoy the photo.

Cheer Spiritwear!

One of the things we do at J & K Embroidery Plus is Spiritwear for cheerleaders and teams. We embroidery and print Spiritwear and Fanwear which includes such items as hoodies, flannel pants, tote bags, shorts, hats, beanies, headbands, jackets, blankets, cheer bear outfits and more. In addition to selling from our shop, we attend Cheerleading Competitions as a vendor. We make products to sell at the competitions and we also take orders for apparel or accessories in the colors, sizes, etc. a customer wants. Outfits are coordinated in team colors or fashion colors. The photo below shows an order completed for a customer who wanted a printed t-shirt, shorts, flannel pants and embroidered blanket with her daughter’s team logo and colors.

The Art of Embroidery

What is embroidery? Embroidery is an art which is to adorn with needlework. Today, the process is much more high-tech than when done by hand. But the results are the same – beautiful intricate designs. Anyone can have something embroidered whether it is a logo, company name, stock design, custom design or personalized gift. Many items may become family heirlooms for generations to come. Embroidery is for everyone!

Then Moses said to the Israelites, “See, the Lord has chosen Bezalel…….. and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts–to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of artistic craftsmanship.
